Nanook's story, from North GA to Melrose FL
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Nanook is approx 2 to 2 1/2 years old. A wonderful angel, Denise, found Nanook on her way home from work, lost and alone wandering down the railroad tracks near her home in North Georgia. After many attempts to find his home, in the end no one step up as this poor soul's owner.
Unfortunately, good turned to concern and worry when Nanook was taken to the vet to recieve shots and a look over. It was determined that Nanook was in the latter stages, stage 4-5, of Heartworm infestation. God must of had his hand on the boy as Nanook came out of the heartworm treatment with flying colors and no lasting problems!
Now, over a year later, after needed vet care and TONS of love, Nanook weighs in at just over 140 lbs (vet believes he will top out at 150lbs) and is healthy, confident and quite a good looking boy!
Nanook is a typical Pyr, LOVING to his deepest heart of hearts and extremely kind and patient with children. Denise describes him as her Gentle Giant which he truely is. Although full of a Pyr's typical stubborness and independence, Nanook is usually willing to do whatever is asked of him esp when a special treat is offered. But when he decides to do his own thing, DOWN goes his butt and there is NO moving his massive body until he is willing to move!
<chuckle>
Nanook's downfall in this life is his strong liking of treats and Nanook will do just about anything for his little doggie bone treats!
Nanook is being worked with to be our ranch/family LGD and we have high hopes that he will work with out herd of goats to help keep them safe from predators. He shows concern and typical guard character to our family, warning off the area dog wanderers when we first came home and establishing a perimeter both indoors and outdoors immediately. He also shows a strong desire to watch over myself and my children, alert and aware of everything going on around him.
We believe STRONGLY that dogs need a job for their own personal confidence and satisfaction. I believe this is esp. true in the case of a rescue as having a job builds confidence and a sense of peace when nothing else will do the trick. Nanook was bred to work and shows the desire and inborn instinctiveness to protect those in his care. Nanook will be encouraged to follow his heart and his instinct and we will do everything we can to help him find happiness and be right at home whether it be working with the goats as a true LGD or working right beside me protecting our entire little ranch and my family......
I look forward to loving and being loved by Nanook! In 2 days, Nanook has stolen our hearts and has integrated his big snow monster of a body into our home, lives and love!
Thank you Denise for you love and care of this poor soul when his owners threw him away and gave him up for dead! Thank you for taking him through the Heartworm treatment so that he was able to find a place where he is needed and will be loved by his family! Thank you from all of us but especially Nanook who would not be here today without your love!
